NEO is a humanoid robotic platform developed by 1X Technologies, a robotics company with operations in Norway and California. NEO is positioned as a home assistance humanoid, distinguishing it from the industrial and general-purpose framing that most other 2026 humanoid platforms have adopted. The platform's engineering choices, including a soft outer layer, low mass, and unusually quiet actuators, reflect this domestic positioning.

Development history

1X Technologies was founded as Halodi Robotics in Norway and was renamed 1X Technologies in 2023 following a corporate reorganization and additional venture financing. The company's early work was on EVE, a wheeled humanoid platform released in 2020 that was designed for security and industrial patrol applications. EVE established the company's engineering vocabulary and its investment in the low-mass, quiet actuator approach that would later define NEO.

NEO was announced in 2024 as the company's first bipedal humanoid platform. The design brief for NEO was substantially different from that of most other 2024 humanoid platforms: rather than emphasizing industrial payload or dynamic locomotion, NEO was engineered for domestic environments. This meant prioritizing low mass (approximately 30 kg, substantially lower than competing platforms), quiet actuation (so the platform would not be disruptive in home settings), and a soft outer layer that reduces both injury risk and the platform's mechanical appearance.

Specifications

Use case

NEO is positioned specifically for home assistance and domestic tasks, distinguishing it from all other 2026 humanoid platforms except the Figure 03, which has also repositioned toward the home category. The specific tasks NEO is designed to perform include light household chores, materials handling in the home, monitoring and companionship for elderly household members, and general assistance with domestic operations. The platform is not positioned for industrial or logistics deployment.

Deployment status

NEO is available under an early access program announced in 2024, allowing selected households to receive early units under a structured deployment arrangement. Broad consumer availability has not been announced. The early access program is characterized by 1X Technologies as a data-collection and platform-validation stage, with feedback from early access households informing subsequent iterations of NEO.

1X Technologies has not published unit shipment volumes for NEO. Industry estimates place early access shipments through mid-2026 in the low hundreds of units.

Cost per unit

1X Technologies has not published unit pricing for NEO. Access to the early access program involves a reservation deposit, but the fully loaded cost per unit under the program is not publicly disclosed. Consumer pricing for broad availability, when it is announced, will be a significant data point in the humanoid market.
